Not much has gone right for India in the first two ODIs. Having lost both the games , the Men in Blue have only pride to play for in the upcoming third ODI. The Virat Kohli-led side were favourites to win the series after clean sweeping the five-match series but failed to capitalise on the momentum.

New Zealand, on the other hand, showed remarkable character to bounce back from the drubbing in the T20Is and put up stunning displays in the first two ODIs to win the series. In the series-opener, the World Cup finalists chased down 348 before defending 273 in the second game to seal the series. What made those two victories even more remarkable was that the hosts were without their skipper Kane Williamson who was nursing a shoulder injury and is back for the third game.

With momentum on their side, New Zealand will be aiming for a clean sweep. As far as India are concerned, they will have their task cut out as they will be desperate to end their four-match losing streak in ODIs to New Zealand. With the Test series ahead, the visitors will be looking to win the ODI to gain some momentum.

Toss report:

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the third and final ODI at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

Here is what the captains said:

Kane Williamson:

“We are going to have a bowl. Obviously a new surface. India has been really pleasing to see and hoping to continue some of the things. I am good. One change, Santner comes in for Chapman.”

Virat Kohli:

“We wanted to bat first anyway. As Kane said, it’s a new surface. Plus we wanted to put up a total on the board. We don’t have anything to lose, so can go out there and play positive cricket. The ODI series has been a good learning for us. When you are playing so much, you will win and lose some. One change. Kedar Jadhav is sitting out of this game and Manish Pandey comes in.”
