The Indian National Cricket Team led by Virat Kohli yet again had a great day at the office. They convincingly thrashed the Kane Williamson-led side in a high-scoring thriller to draw the first blood in the five-match T20I series. For India, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were the stars with the bat.

Chasing a score of 204 runs, India lost Rohit Sharma for a cheap score but Rahul and Virat Kohli showed their class by knocking out the ball to boundary fence more often than not. Though Rahul and Kohli perished at the crucial stage, Iyer took the onus on his shoulders to finish the game for India in style.

India put us under pressure constantly – Kane Williamson

Speaking of the same, the skipper of New Zealand Kane Williamson stated that defending a tally in Auckland is always a tough job for the bowlers. He admitted that the Indian batsmen constantly kept them under pressure to make things tough for the Black Caps.

However, Williamson highlighted the positives to take from the game against the hosts.

He believes that all the players finished their task to perfection in the middle.

Besides, Williamson is happy with the effort of the boys and asks them to pull up their sleeves in the second game to level the five-match series to 1-1.

”There are a lot of positives. It is hard to defend here and there was a bit of dew here. We knew we had to score over 200 with this being a used surface. Credit to India for the way they played. Taking pace off seemed to be working okay, but it was tough to execute because India put us under pressure constantly,” Kane Williamson said.

”But we do need to find ways to pick up some wickets. It was nice to build some partnerships. Guys came in and played their roles really well. It’s important we improve in all areas in the next game,” he added in the post-match presentation.

All in all, it was a tough day at the office for New Zealand. However, as Williamson said, there were many positives to look at for the home team. The second game of the series is also scheduled to be played at the same venue on Sunday.
