New Zealand vs India 2020: Shreyas Iyer Has Played With Freedom - Tim Southee

New Zealand vs India T20I series has already reaped rewards for the Indian team, especially while seeing Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul in a rich vein of form. The duo played brilliantly to help India lead the five-match series with 2-0. They tackled Tim Southee-led bowling department to perfection in both the games at Auckland.

Speaking of Iyer, the experienced Southee stated that the youngster is playing with a lot of freedom, which is a positive sign for the Indian team.

The Kiwi pacer also hailed the Indian team for being such a consistent side in the world cricket at the moment, irrespective of the playing conditions.

Southee added that the New Zealand players, who have a few inexperienced players in the lineup must be on their toes to face a quality side like India.

With the series at stake, Southee hopes the New Zealand team performs well as a unit.

”You have initial plans for the guys you haven’t seen much. He (Iyer) has come in and has played with freedom. He has had a great start to series, the whole India side has quality. We know that we need to be on top of our game,” Southee told reporters ahead of the third T20I.

“India have played well. They are a great side, they have world-class players. We were outplayed in the second game, it is always tough when you play against India. We know that we need to be at our best to defeat them,” he added.

Further, Southee has urged his side not to beat themselves up following back-to-back losses in the first two Twenty20 internationals with India. He believes the youngsters had learnt their mistakes from the first couple of games, which will help them to do well in the must-win game at Hamilton.

“Change of venue, we need to win this game. I think the guys would have learnt from the first two games. we have to wait and see how the surface is like and then we will decide what we need to do. We pride ourselves as a New Zealand cricket side. Our fielding has been off for the first couple of games, it is an attitude thing and we will look to improve it,” he added.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out for New Zealand in the third game of the series.

With the venue being Seddon Park, New Zealand can take the heart from the previous records they set at this venue.
