New Zealand camp is hoping against hope to have the right-handed batsman Ross Taylor in the side. However, a good sign was to have skipper Kane Willaimson match-fit the Black Caps, for the Wellington One-day International.

Williamson had a chance to take a lead in the five-match ODI series against England. But visitors bowlers went on to bowl with great discipline which also saw the Kiwis lacking fizz in their middle-order.

“[The dismissals] were a bit different, some were very poor decision-making; others were a bit of a lack of execution,” New Zealand coach Mike told as he was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

While ruing the poor batting show, Hesson hinted the batsmen didn’t work according to the plan. The middle-order was folded by English spinners in the form of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali

“Once the spinners came on, it was always going to be a challenge starting on that surface – Kane was the only player to get past 50 in the match, so, clearly, starting was difficult – but we lacked the batsmanship required yesterday,” Hesson said.

Williamson, who missed out the second ODI due to a hamstring made a thumping return. He scored 143-ball 112. However, he could not take his team home after splendid hundred, as wickets kept tumbling on the other end. With this loss, England is leading the series 2-1.

“As the only player to pass fifty suggests it was an outstanding innings. To get us to a point where we had a chance to win was testament to his quality,” Hesson asserts.

Earlier, the senior batsman Taylor missed out the third ODI after failing to recover well in time. After picking the quad injury during the second ODI, Taylor’s service was missed in the third fixture.

Meanwhile, Taylor was assessed on March 2 following the training session. The hosts went on to face Three Lions on March 3 (Saturday).

Pertinently, in the series opener in Hamilton, Taylor smashed a magnificent hundred which propelled the Black Caps to clinch the match by three wickets.

Following the major eye surgery, Taylor has been spectacular in the ODI format and there on he is averaging 57.27. Between that period he has also smashed three tons.

“We have some very talented players, such as Mark Chapman, but at the moment they aren’t Ross Taylor. It’s looking promising for Ross,” Hesson added.

Interestingly, the all-round performance from Ben Stokes which was comprised of a fifty and two scalps saw England levelling the series in Mount Maunganui.

The flop-show saw Hesson lamenting the outcome. However, he is adamant while adding it was Williamson remarkable innings since past one year.

“That’s probably the best Kane has played in 12 months in terms of the way he stuck to his game plan form ball one,” Hesson maintained.

The only highlight apart from Williamson for New Zealand’s innings was the partnership between the leader and Mitchell Santner. Both shared crucial 96-run stand before falling short of the run chase.
