Bangladesh missed their star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan after a finger injury ruled him out of the series.

Meanwhile, Shakib sustained an injury during the tri-series earlier this year. However, he has now flown to Sri Lanka to take part in the knockout game against the hosts.

Bangladesh’s head coach, Courtney Walsh made it clear that Shakib will play the match only If he is 100% match fit.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will play the knockout match later today against the host. The winner of this game will face India in Sunday’s final.

In the last match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh chased down a record target of 215 banking on Mushfiqur Rahim’s blistering knock. However, Bangladeshi bowlers need to rise to the occasion.

Will have to pass the fitness test: Walsh

Walsh in a press conference admitted Shakib needs to pass the fitness Test to feature in the match. Also, he said Shakib was in the frame of things for the Nidahas Trophy.

Like any other player, he will be assessed. If he is fit, he will be considered for selection. We are hoping he will be fit enough to play. He had a net session in Dhaka. There won’t be any confusion,” said Walsh.

We were hoping to have him from the beginning of the tournament. He was always part of the set-up. We knew he was going to make a comeback if there was any chance for him. It is nothing to worry about. Once Shakib is fit, we are going to welcome him to the team,” Walsh added.

Meanwhile, Shakib’s return will boost the Tigers ahead of the must-win clash.
