Bangladesh’s talismanic opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal tagged India as favourites to lift the Nidahas Trophy. The trilateral event is scheduled to take place between India, Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka at the Premadasa Stadium Colombo.

Sri Lankan Cricket, to celebrate the 70th year of their independence, decided to host the 7- match T20I Triseries. India, freshly coming off a gruelling South African tour, rested the likes Kohli, Dhoni, Bhuvi and Bumrah for the tournament.

However, the southpaw claimed that the nature of the format is such that the course of the game may fluctuate. Thus, Tamim feels that the Tigers’ mustn’t panic when things don’t go their way.

India is favorites, they are in great form. This format [T20Is] is so interesting that the game can change at any moment. For me the most important thing for a batsman when he is out of form is to not panic,” claimed Tamim Iqbal according to BDcrictime.

The recent form of the Bangladeshis has been a cause for concern. They recently lost the 2-match T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka. Furthermore, Bangladesh lost the ODI Tri-series to Lanka, before the Test series.

We go through good form and we go through bad patches. So, as a team it is quite normal for that to happen. Sometimes we play well as a team and sometimes we don’t play well,” added Tamim, as quoted as saying by Daily Star.

“I think in some cases we a panicking a lot and I feel we need to curb that since as a team you have to accept that when things are not going well, we should not be panicking and we need to go back to the basics,” the 28-year old opined.

We have to remember the basics which we executed to achieve results in the last few years and we have to progress in that way,” ended Iqbal, freshly off his stint with defending champions Peshawar Zalmi in PSL.
