Moreover, Bangladesh has a massive challenge to fill the void in the absence of a senior campaigner.

The Jessore-born Shakib spent round off ten days in Thailand for the physiotherapy programme.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) doctor Debashish Chowdhury has a say on Shakib. Chowdhury revealed Shakib was told to undergo the physiotherapy.

Shakib nursed the injury during the Tri-nation series final in Mirpur on January 27. The competition included Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

“The doctors in Bangkok said the same thing that the doctors here had earlier said,” Chowdhury told the Daily Star.

“Shakib will arrive tomorrow and after a week of physiotherapy, his condition will be assessed,” Chowdhury said.

Bangladesh’s squad will fly to Sri Lanka on March 4 after day-long training camp on March 2.

BCB’s chairman for Cricket Operations Akram Khan stated Shakib’s inclusion in the T20I squad for the Islanders tour is ’50-50’.
