West Indies, on Saturday, announced their 14-man squad for the forthcoming ODI tri-series in Ireland. The other two teams in the series are the hosts and Bangladesh. As expected, Jason Holder will lead the side.  The newly-appointed West Indies selection panel have recalled allrounder Jonathan Carter and pacer Shannon Gabriel for the series which will be a dress rehearsal for the Caribbean outfit before the all-important World Cup.

Surprisingly, West Indies have not named some the likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer and Alzarri Joseph in the squad. The players are currently playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). But while several other teams like England and Australia have already made it clear their players will miss the last phase of the IPL to prepare for the World Cup, the Caribbean outfit has decided against it.  The series gets underway from May 5 in Dublin with the final slated for May 17.

“The selection panel consisted of interim Head Coach Floyd Reifer, Captain Jason Holder and interim Chairman of Selectors Robert Haynes,” said Jimmy Adams, director of cricket.

“They have selected a squad to Ireland that allows a slightly wider pool of players to get 50-over experience in UK conditions which I think is very important. This is not the World Cup squad, as a number of players are not available for this series as they are still participating in the IPL,” he added.
