Ben Curran, brother of England all-rounders Tom and Sam, has signed a two-year contract with Northamptonshire on Wednesday (August 15).

The world could soon see another Curran lighting up the cricket field after Tom and most-recently Sam. Ben is following the footsteps of his late father Kevin Curran by signing for Northamptonshire. Kevin had plied his trade for Northamptonshire from 1991 to 1999. Ben has already made two T20 appearances for the county and has now signed a two-year contract that will begin at the start of the 2019 season.

Ben made his Second Eleven Championship debut in 2015 and has been representing Northamptonshire Second XI side this season. He has been in fine form, amassing 490 runs during the course of the season. Last week, he opened the batting and scored a 134 against Nottinghamshire Second XI. Ben could also bowl handy off-spin. Ben will remain part of the first-team squad for the rest of this season.

Expressing his delight over signing the deal, Ben said:

“I’m delighted to have signed for Northants. The fact that my Dad played here too it makes it even more special to be able to represent this county. I hope that I can contribute in all three formats over the next few years and fingers crossed we can have a strong end to the season in both the Blast and the County Championship.”

Northants’ head coach, David Ripley welcomed Ben and said he is looking forward to working with the batsman.

“Ben has scored heavily in all formats for us in the Second XI as well as continuing to churn out runs for the MCCYC’s. He deserves an opportunity and we look forward to working with him over the next two seasons. He has a lot of competitive spirit and I know he will make the most of his chance. We are grateful to Steve Kirby and the YC’s for their cooperation in making this happen,” said Ripley.

Meanwhile, his brothers Tom and Sam have already made their England debut.  Tom made his ODI and T20I debuts last summer before making his Test debut in the Ashes Down Under. On the other hand, Sam recently made his debut this summer against Pakistan. In just his second Test, he bagged the Man of the Match award against India in the ongoing series for his all round show.
