Kuldeep Yadav‘s form this season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a major headache for Team India ahead of the World Cup. The left-arm spinner has done exceedingly well for the team ever since becoming a regular in the white-ball formats. Irrespective of conditions, Kuldeep has delivered more often than not. The chinaman spinner has already proved his worth in South Africa, England and Australia.

No surprises then that all eyes are on Kuldeep as India gear up for the World Cup. However, the signs are not promising so far.  In 9 games so far, the Kolkata Knight Riders star has picked up just 4 wickets, a stark deep in his performance from the previous editions. This season is in stark contrast to the previous two IPL seasons where he picked up 12 and 17 wickets respectively. In his last outing this season, Royal Challengers Bangalore had hit him for 59 runs including 26 runs in one over. The Knight Riders have not included Kuldeep Yadav in their playing eleven in the last two games.

But while Kuldeep’s form is not at all promising at the moment, India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma has played down the concerns surrounding the spinner’s form.

“Certainly, this is one of the most complete bowling attacks. I am not bothered about Kuldeep Yadav’s lack of success in the Indian Premier League because franchise cricket and playing for India are very different,” Rohit told India Today.

Another bowler who will be very crucial to India’s chances at the World Cup is Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit also spoke on him, spilling the beans on what makes his Mumbai Indians teammate so good.

“The secret to Jasprit Bumrah’s success is he understands the batsman very very well and keeps it as simple as possible. While he has all the skills and all the balls in his repertoire, he keeps it very simple in his mind,” said Rohit.

The World Cup, meanwhile, will start on May 30. India, on the other hand, will start their campaign on June 5 against South Africa.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
