Ollie Robinson has been withdrawn from the Sussex squad ahead of the county’s Bob Willis Trophy fixture against Kent, starting in Canterbury against Kent on Saturday, after he was asked to join England’s bio-secure bubble in Ageas Bowl in Southampton for the upcoming Test against Pakistan.

England Cricket’s official Twitter handle posted the same on Saturday.

”Seamer Ollie Robinson has been withdrawn from Sussex’s squad for their Bob Willis Trophy match against Kent. He will join the bio-secure bubble at the Ageas Bowl as part of England men’s behind closed doors training group ahead of the second Test against Pakistan,” read England Cricket’s tweet.

Robinson, who has claimed 244 wickets in 57 First-Class outings, was a part of the national sides’ bio-bubble in the first two Tests against the West Indies but was then released to join his county’s bubble ahead of the start of the Bob Willis Trophy- a one-off First-Class tournament, initiated by the ECB for the 2020 summer in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Robinson’s addition, despite exploits last week, comes as a surprise, considering England have plenty of seam bowling options in their squad. Apart from the quartet of Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer, and Chris Woakes, who are currently spearheading the attack in the first Test against Pakistan at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, the home side also has the likes of Mark Wood and Sam Curran waiting in the wings.

The second and third Test of the ongoing series will take place at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Ollie Robinson had a brilliant first game of the summer against Hampshire, in which he registered figures of 3-33 and 5-28 to help Sussex claim a commanding 94-run-win, and it will be interesting to see whether the right-handed fast bowler actually gets a game in the upcoming two Tests.
