Omar Henry reckons present Indian side would become a force away from home

Former Protea – Omar Henry, and Dave Callaghan – were all praises for the Indian cricket team after they drew curtains to their successful South African tour. Henry went on to state that the present Indian side will become a force to reckon with even outside the sub-continent.

Henry was part of the post-Apartheid era of South African cricket which hosted India in 1992. Since then, Henry often saw Asian teams decapitate under the seaming and bouncing condition of South Africa.

After the Cape Town Test, Hendry predicted yet another dismal show from the touring side. However, it was not to be as India avoided an inevitable whitewash in Test series with a historic win at Jo’Burg.

Following the victory, they swept the T20I as well as the ODI series to collect two trophies back home, after handing over the Freedom Series Trophy to the hosts.

I think they [Team India] were fantastic ambassadors and showed the cricket world that they are a much- improved team while playing on bouncy and seamer-friendly pitches. They are going to become a force also away from home,” reckons Omar Henry.

On Kuldeep and Chahal

The Cape Town-based cricketer also heaped adulations on India’s wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Henry stated that the two leggies excite him.

In terms of limited overs cricket, they [Chahal and Kuldeep) can become world-class, if not already. They both excite me. They are still young and the more they get exposed at international level, the better they will become. Don’t forget, they were bowling along with a good seam and swing attack,” quoted Henry according to Mid-day.

All-rounder Dave Callaghan, who witnessed India’s 5-2 drubbing in the ODI series first hand back in 1992, believes the result of the series might have been different had the Indian team played few tour games before the Test series.

It was great having India in South Africa this summer. They are an excellent side in all formats and because of all that quality, they have adapted to South African conditions so easily. The Test results could have been a little different if India had come out earlier for preparation,” concluded Callaghan.
