It is reported that Bangalore based educational technology and online based firm Byju can replace Oppo from Team India’s jersey. The move is expected to come into effect after September. In fact, Team India will support the Oppo jersey till the West Indies tour. The Carribean tour will end on September 2 and then the change would be made.

Meanwhile, Byju will be printed on the Indian team jersey when South Africa will tour India from September 15. Oppo, Chinese mobile company had won the rights to be the sponsors of the Indian team jersey for a five year period. They had won the bid for a whopping price of INR 1079 crores in 2017 and had beaten their rivals Vivo who had bid INR 768 crores.

Byju will take over.

On the other hand, Oppo has decided to exit the contract as it is finding the cost to be extremely high and unsustainable, as reported by Times of India. Furthermore, the report states that the Board of Control for Cricket in India will also get the same amount from Byju. Hence, the Indian board will not incur any loss until the deal runs till 31st March 2022.

Oppo was paying BCCI Rs 4.61 crore per bilateral match and Rs 1.56 crore for an ICC event match. Before that, STAR India used to pay Rs 1.92 crore per bilateral match and Rs 61 lakh for an ICC match.

Meanwhile, India had faced a heartbreak exit from the World Cup after they faced a loss against New Zealand in the semifinal. The Men in Blue will now tour West Indies for three T20Is, as many ODIs and two Test matches, which will be part of the Test championship. The first T20I will take place in Florida on 3rd August.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni has taken a two months break as he has joined the Paramilitary forces. Dhoni has made himself unavailable for selection amid the retirement speculations.
