EXCLUSIVE: Team India Looks To Be The Strongest Contender To Win The ICC T20 World Cup, Says Owais Shah

Former England middle-order batsman Owais Shah reckons that the Indian National Cricket Team are his favourite contenders to win the ICC T20 World Cup this year. The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 is scheduled to take place in October-November later this year in Australia.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the threat of suspension looms large over the tournament. Talking about India, the Men in Blue have won the competition once before. They went to win the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup back in 2007 in South Africa. It was the first tournament that India won under MS Dhoni’s captaincy as they later went on to win the ICC World Cup in 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.

Although India failed to grab their hands on the ICC World Cup last year in England, Owais Shah believes that the current Indian side is capable of lifting the trophy this year.

Owais Shah Names India The Favourites To Win The ICC T20 WC

Speaking exclusively to CricketAddictor.com, Owais Shah said, “India are the favourites to win the ICC T20 World Cup this year. They have a lot of experience, they play a lot of high-pressure cricket in the IPL, they have everything, they have the entire package.”

Coronavirus Threat Looms Large Over The ICC T20 World Cup

The cricketing world has also suffered a great deal due to the pandemic. Major cricketing events have either been postponed or suspended in the wake of the pandemic. Australia was supposed to host the ICC T20 World Cup later this year, but due to the outbreak, there are speculations that the tournament might be held behind closed doors.

Recently, the IPL 2020 was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak. To the disappointment of the cricket fans, the India-South Africa ODI series was also called off. Apart from it, the Road Safety World Series has also been suspended.

All the English players playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) were called back immediately, and the tournament was postponed.
