Pakistan has never beaten India in a World Cup match since they first played each other in 1992 in Australia. However, Moin Khan is optimistic about his team’s chances of breaking the jinx against India in the 2019 World Cup in the UK. As the Men in Green, during the finals of the Champions Trophy 2017 defeated the Indian team by 180 runs; Moin believes the side can triumph their arch-rivals at the showpiece event too. Meanwhile, both the Asian heavyweights will face off on June 16th at the Old Trafford, Manchester.

This team has the firepower to beat India – Moin

As India and Pakistan gear up for the mega event in England and Wales, Moin Khan reckons Pakistan side has the firepower and talent to register their maiden win over India. Speaking to GTV news channel on Tuesday, Khan added skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has gelled well with the boys and the team is upbeat to turn the tables around.

“This present team is very capable of recording a first win over India in a World Cup because there is talent, there is depth and variety and Sarfraz Ahmed has now gelled the squad well,” Moin Khan said.

The former wicketkeeper-batsman was the part of the XI when Pakistan and India faced off in the 1992 and 1999 World Cup, respectively. Though he, as a player, had to taste defeat in the past; Moin Khan opined the conditions in England would favour Pakistan. Also, considering the past result Pakistan had attained against their neighbours in the UK, they should enter the contest as a threat to the Indians.

“I say this because our boys beat them (India) in the Champions Trophy two years back and I just feel that in English conditions in June we have better bowlers,” he said.

Our boys are in good spirits, says Khan

Even in the past, Pakistan had been the most successful of the Asian teams in England. During their previous two Test tours, they held England for a draw and won the Champions Trophy a couple of years back. Moin Khan, who is backing the Pakistani team to accomplish ultimate glory said the boys are in high spirits leading into the World Cup.

“This should be a very interesting World Cup and I am backing Pakistan to beat India. Our boys are in good spirits and it is good they will go into the competition after having played ODI matches against South Africa, Australia, and England,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan recently concluded the bilateral series against South Africa and could now be up against the mighty Aussies at their adopted home, in the UAE; for a short ODI series.
