Pakistan Cricket Board (PC) is likely to sack the incumbent skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed ahead of their next series against Australia. Head coach and chief selectors Misbah ul Haq has expressed his reservations with Sarfaraz and has communicated it with PCB CEO Wasim Khan.
The veteran wicket-keeper batsman has faced the wrath of the fans after their recent drubbing against second-string Sri Lankan side in the T20Is. Following which there were speculations that Sarfaraz Ahmed might lose his captaincy.
As per reports, veteran batsman Azhar Ali is likely to take over the baton for the Test side. Meanwhile, wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan will work as his deputy. Ali has been Pakistan’s best batsman in red-ball cricket and is the best candidate to take over the reins.
On the other hand, veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is the frontrunner to take up the limited-overs leadership role. The selectors and pondering over Babar Azam but considering his limited experience, Azam is likely to work under Hafeez to gain experience.
Speculations are also going around that management are keen to use young players for the upcoming series. The current set-up has failed to deliver and thus the management wants to try various options before the ICC World T20 next year.
Meanwhile, Misbah ul Haq has already reached Faisalabad to oversee the performances in the ongoing National T20 cup. He will consult with the head coaches of various teams who will help the former skipper to pick the squad for the upcoming tour.
