Didn't Retire from Tests Out of Fear of Facing Dale Steyn - Mohammad Hafeez

Pakistan veteran, Mohammad Hafeez had clarified he didn’t retire from Test cricket out of fear of facing South African speedster, Dale Steyn. However, Pakistan will tour South Africa for five ODIs, three Tests and two T20Is commencing from December 26. Moreover, the right-hander revealed he had decided to retire from Test cricket, as he couldn’t perform well. Hafeez also added he didn’t want to achieve any milestone, as he had already gained a lot in his career.

“I did not retire from Test cricket because I was not performing. I retired from Test cricket because of personal reasons and have achieved many milestones in my career, and there were no other milestones left for me to play for. For now, I want to focus on white ball cricket.” Mohammad Hafeez said.

In addition to, the 38-year-old has rejected the rumours surrounding his retirement from Test cricket. Mohammad Hafeez also said he had faced Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada in white-ball format. He further stated he would prove those false statements with his performance.

 “People think that I am afraid of South Africa’s playing conditions and [Dale] Steyn and [Kagiso] Rabada. I have to face these bowlers in one-day cricket also. I will answer these statements with my performance.” Hafeez added.

Turning to the subject of Lahore Qalandars for whom he will be leading in the next edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Mohammad Hafeez said,

“Qalandars have entrusted me with a huge responsibility. I will do my best with the help of the players and management.”

Furthermore, Hazeez also praised Qalandars saying they had done a great job in finding new talents.

“Qalandars have done great work with the players’ development programme.” the veteran further said.

Meanwhile, the all-rounder so far had played 55 Test matches scoring 3652 runs with the highest score of 224 runs. Hafeez had slammed twelve half-centuries and ten hundred in the red-ball cricket.
