Pakistan Players To Wear Army Caps For Kashmir Issue? Misbah-ul-Haq Responds

Misbah-ul-Haq was an instant hit in his very first press-conference as Pakistan’s head coach. Just like his playing days, Misbah-ul-Haq made sure to stick to cricket and not invite any sort of controversy. His no-nonsense approach with the journalists was a treat to the eyes and was an indication to how his stint would be.

Not very surprisingly, the journalists asked a few question which was not appropriate but Misbah-ul-Haq handled them brilliantly. One of those questions was about Kashmir. The Kashmir issue has further deteriorated the already poor bilateral relation between India and Pakistan. Last month, India abrogated Article 370 which had given special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

It was a temporary provision and India had all the rights to abrogate it. As a result of the decision, the state was divided into two union territories. However, Pakistan have been crying foul over India’s decision and have tried to tarnish their neighbour’s image by spreading fake propaganda over social media.

A number of former cricketers like Javed Miandad and Shahid Afridi have been very vocal about the issue. Just like their compatriots, Miandad and Afridi have also indulged in spreading fake propaganda. However, Misbah-ul-Haq acted like a breath of fresh air on Wednesday during the press conference.

The journalist asked Misbah whether Pakistan team is planning to do something like Team India did after the Pulwama attack. The Indian players had donned military caps as a mark of respect to the martyrs. But Misbah-ul-Haq was quick to shut the journalist by making it clear that he was there only to talk about cricket.

“The whole of Pakistan has sympathies with Kashmir – but let’s talk cricket,” said the legendary cricketer.

Misbah-ul-Haq and Pakistan, meanwhile, are gearing up for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Pakistan will host the islanders for three ODIs and three T20Is, starting on September 27. The series will be Pakistan’s first outing since their group-stage exit from the World Cup. Pakistan will also be playing their first ODI in their backyard since the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009.

Since then Pakistan have hosted the likes of Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, West Indies as well as a World XI side but only for T20Is.
