Zulqarnain Haider, the wicket-keeper from Pakistan who last played an international game in 2010 has expressed his interest in returning to international cricket once again. Meanwhile, Haider announced his retirement in 2010 for a strange reason.

It was in November 2010, when Pakistan was battling against South Africa in an ODI series. However, midway to the series, Zulqarnain Haider decided to hang his boots. He claimed that he received death threats from unknown persons. In addition to, he also noted that someone asked him to lose the fourth ODI against the Proteas. Incidentally, Haider struck the winning runs for Pakistan in that game.

Soon after that, Zulqarnain Haider announced his retirement with immediate effect. He also applied for asylum in the United Kingdom but later withdrew his application. The wicket-keeper batsman has represented Pakistan in one Tests, four ODIs and three T20Is. In the only Test, he played against England in Birmingham, Haider played a beautiful knock of 88 runs after getting out for a duck in the first innings. The knock helped Pakistan save an innings defeat against host England.

However, Zulqarnain Haider is once again in the headlines, after he expressed his keen interest in being back playing cricket for Pakistan. He also admitted that he is ready to play grade-2 cricket to prove his calibre. Renowned sports journalist from Pakistan, Saj Sadiq confirmed the same on Twitter.

Meanwhile, another Pakistani wicket-keeper is in the news – Zulqarnain Haider has announced that he has reversed his decision to retire from international cricket,” Sadiq wrote on Twitter.

Sarfaraz apologises on Twitter

Meanwhile, another Pakistan wicket-keeper and skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has apologised on Twitter for his racist remarks towards South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo during the second ODI against South Africa at Durban.

The incident took place during the 37th over of the game as the Proteas was chasing the target. Sarfaraz made controversial remarks when Phehlukwayo completed a run. However, the Pakistan skipper has expressed his sincere apology saying that he didn’t intend to hurt anyone and it was not directed to anybody.
