India’s physio Patrick Farhart would have wanted his journey with the team to end on a good note. Patrick Farhart had joined the Indian team soon after the 2015 World Cup and had replaced Nitin Patel. Along with him, Shankar Basu and Arun Kanade, who will be on board as strength and conditioning expert and masseur, had also joined the team.

New Zealand beat India by 18 runs to make it to the final. India were looking well on their way of making it to final when they reduced New Zealand to a modest 239 for 8. But in the end, the Men in Blue were all out for 221 to crash out of the World Cup at the semifinal stage for the second time in a row. India’s hopes were up in smoke right at the beginning of their innings when they were reduced to 5 for 3.

India soon found themselves 4 down for 24 and then 6 down for 92. The game looked very much over at that moment before Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni revived India’s hopes. The two mixed caution with aggression to keep India in hunt. However, they were out at crucial junctures and India were eventually all out for 221. Both Jadeja and Dhoni scored fighting fifties but their efforts were not just enough.

The defeat brought an end to Patrick Farhart’s four-year journey with the team and the physio posted an emotional message to describe it. He thanked the BCCI and wished Team India good luck for the future, writing:

“Whilst my last day with the team did not turn out as I wanted it to, I would like to thank @BCCI for the opportunity to work with the team for the last 4 years. My best wishes to all of the players and support staff for the future #TeamIndia”
