Former England wicketkeeper Paul Nixon has hailed MS Dhoni as the best Indian wicketkeeper of all time. In an exclusive chat with Cricket Addictor, Nixon not only lavished praise on the former India skipper but also revealed that he had coached him for a couple of hours many years ago.

MS Dhoni is one of the most decorated wicketkeepers in the history of the game. After making his debut in 2004, he went on to completely redefine the role of a wicketkeeper in the team. Before him, the wicketkeepers were all about being good behind the stumps and a handy batsman.

However, MS Dhoni changed it all for good. The World Cup-winning captain is the third in the list of most dismissals as wicketkeeper. Apart from Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist, he is the only wicketkeeper to have more than 800 dismissals in international cricket.

With the bat, he is one of the very players in the history of the game who have scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. In Tests, he has scored nearly 5,000 runs while in T20Is, he has more than 1,600 runs.

“I actually coached the great man, I coached Mr. Dhoni for a couple of hours many years ago. He was struggling, he came with Robin (former India fielding coach Robin Singh). We had a wonderful session. We had a fantastic couple of hours. Every time I see him, he always does a big high five, that’s how things are,” Paul Nixon told Cricket Addictor.

The ex-England international also mentioned Syed Kirmani as a good wicketkeeper and then went on to point out MS Dhoni’s record as batsman as well as captain.
