PCB Disappointed With Sri Lanka's Chief Comment Over Security Measures

Finally, after a long time, Pakistan fans have witnessed an international bilateral series in home conditions. Irrespective of the result, the Pakistan Cricket Board was successful in hosting the series and sending Sri Lankan players back to their home without any disturbances. Despite that, the Chief of Sri Lanka Shammi Silva termed that he was fed up with the security measures.

Initially, there were doubts over the limited-overs tour but the Sri Lankan board sent a second-string squad for the series after as many as ten senior players pulled out citing security concerns The Sri Lankan cricket team staged a valiant comeback after going down 0-2 in the ODI series to maul Pakistan 3-0 in the T20I series in their own backyard.

The country’s cricket board president said that despite the security arrangements, having to stay in a hotel and having to wait for roads to be closed was not easy. Shammi Silva has claimed that he got fed-up staying in hotel rooms for three-four days due to security arrangements.

Sri Lanka are scheduled to return to Pakistan for a Test series in December. But Silva said that the board would need to talk to the players as being cooped up in hotel rooms was not ideal for them.

Speaking of the same, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is disappointed with the recent statements made by Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva regarding security arrangements for his team.

The PCB is said to have communicated Sri Lanka cricket officials and notified them that Presidential Level security was implemented to their team during its Pakistan tour.

“The PCB is very disappointed and hurt over such comments as presidential level security was provided to the visiting team on the insistence of their board. We wanted to make their stay as comfortable as possible,” the source said.

The source said the PCB has reminded Lankan board officials that the players were given the choice of going out to play golf and do some shopping while they were also entertained at official dinners and functions.

Recently, in a video, which went viral online, an array of security vehicles can be seen accompanying the Sri Lanka cricket team buses on their way to the National Stadium in Karachi. Convoy vehicles are surrounding multiple team buses and an ambulance also follows the array of vehicles in an apparent curfew-like situation.
