PCB Remove Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik From Central Contracts

Following the disaster World Cup campaign, the Pakistan Cricket Board is thriving for new changes. They want to revamp their domestic cricketing culture and also bringing a change to coaching staff alongside the selection committee. Meanwhile, they also made quite a few interesting selections in the central contracts, which missed the names of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik.

Malik announced his retirement from ODIs after the World Cup and will only be playing T20 cricket from now onwards while left-arm pacer Mohammad Aamir has also announced his retirement from Tests and will only play limited-overs cricket. Hafeez too announced his Test retirement in the recent past.

Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed find ”A” Category:

Although the players could get enhancements in their monthly salaries and match fees, the board has decided now to only award contracts to players who have done well in the last one year and have a future with the Pakistan team.

The list has been trimmed from 33 to 19 and the players who have been awarded central contracts are:

Category A – Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Yasir Shah

Category B – Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz

Category C – Abid Ali, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood and Usman Shinwari

PCB have set high standards:

Speaking of the contracts, the managing director quoted that the board has set high standards in the order to see a player being named in the central contracts. Further, he congratulated all the players, who got promotion in the central contracts.

PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan said: “I want to congratulate all those who have been offered central contracts for the next season. We have significantly increased the financial value of the 2019-20 retainers across each category. This is over and above what had been agreed in the current agreement, which is due to run until 2021.”

“The PCB have set high standards and targets in its strategic plan for the upcoming season. We want to attach a high value to receiving a central contract. We have complete faith and confidence that these players will set-up and produce on-field performances that will help us collectively achieve our objectives and targets.”

Well, it would be interesting to see how Pakistan Cricket Board would work on their future. For now, they will be preparing to take on Sri Lanka in 2 Tests, 3 ODI and T20I games.
