Perhaps, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wouldn’t have expected the stroke from ICC after accusing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). They have been asked to compensate 60% of the BCCI’s legal charges in the recently concluded MoU case. The ICC Dispute Panel passed the judgement by asking PCB to bear 60% of the legal charges.

Nearly a month after rejecting the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) compensation claim against India for allegedly failing to honour a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cricket, the ICC announced the costs award for the two Boards.

The Dispute Panel has determined that the PCB should pay 60 per cent of: “(a) the [BCCI’s] Claimed Costs; and (b) the administrative costs and expenses of the Panel. which fall within the scope of paragraph 11.4 of the T/R. (including, without limitation, the fees of the Tribunal members. And also, the costs and expenses they incurred in relation to this matter), the figure whereof is to be supplied to the PCB by the ICC.”

BCCI to pay 40%:

Earlier, PCB had accused BCCI of not honouring an agreement to play bilateral cricket series in 2014 and 2015. The Pakistani Board has said that it was a legal breach but ICC’s Dispute Resolution Committee had rejected the claim.

The DRC had justified its decision by stating that an agreement between two cricket boards to play bilateral cricket carries a moral, not legal, obligation. The BCCI had then moved the dispute panel seeking recovery of the legal costs acquired.

The BCCI, on the other hand, has been asked to pay 40 per cent of the administrative costs and expenses of the DRC. The judgement did not specify the exact amount that was claimed by the Indian Board.

Speaking of the judgement, BCCI stated ”The BCCI wholeheartedly welcomes the decision of the Dispute Panel. The BCCI will now move the Dispute Panel to recover its legal cost from the PCB.”

All in all, everything went well for BCCI while PCB has to bear the losses. Despite the tensions, fans would love to see both countries involving in a bilateral series but, unfortunately, it seems like not going to happen any sooner.
