Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has slammed Kapil Dev after the latter criticised Shoaib Akhtar’s proposal for a series between India and Pakistan. The likes of Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi have made it clear that Pakistan are desperate to play against India in order to generate funds for the fight against coronavirus pandemic.

Shoaib Akhtar raised a number of eyebrows by proposing a closed-door series between the two arch-rivals while people across the world are being advised to stay indoors. The former Pakistan fast-bowler said that the series could be played to jointly raise funds to fight the deadly virus both in India and Pakistan.

Unsurprisingly, Kapil Dev was not at all impressed with the proposal as Akhtar’s proposal completely ignored the safety of the players. The legendary allrounder stated that “India doesn’t need the money” and it is not worth risking lives for a cricket match.

Former IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla had also laughed off the proposal from Akhtar. However, Shahid Afridi, who has developed a knack of speaking against India in recent times, backed his former teammate and said that he was shocked by Kapil Dev’s reply. He also said that he has seen videos of Indian people taking out food from garbage.

“Shoaib Akhtar said something positive for the sake of humanity. I’m shocked at Kapil Dev’s reply to him as I’ve seen videos from India where people are taking food from the garbage & eating it. Whilst I respect him, Kapil shouldn’t have said what he did,” Shahid Afridi was quoted as saying by Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the India-Pakistan bilateral relation is also at an all-time low.  The arch-rivals have not played a full bilateral Test series since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for three Tests and five One-Day Internationals. They played a short series of three ODIs and two T20s in India in December 2012, but otherwise, both have faced each other only in the ICC organised events or the Asia Cup.
