The Perth Stadium is in all likelihood going to take over the hosting duties from the iconic and historic WACA Ground following the approval of the International Cricket Council of the newly built venue to hosts all three formats of the game said a Cricket Australia press release on Thursday. The new stadium has a sitting capacity of 50,000 which will now become the main venue for cricket in Western Australia. The 5th and the final ODI between Australia and England on January 28 will be the first time that a major sporting event is held at the ground.

The iconic WACA ground has lost its bite in the last few years. In the yesteryears, the WACA was considered as one of the fastest wickets in the world, but in the last few years, it hasn’t been the case which might be the reason behind the introduction of the Perth Stadium.

“The stadium is a magnificent asset for the state of WA and its sports fan. We very much look forward to bringing this big Australia-England one-day match to Perth to the Stadium on 28 January,” Australia CEO James Sutherland was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

The stadium will also host matches from the Big Bash League, Australian rules soccer, and rugby. Following an inspection ICC affiliated match referee Richie Richardson said the stadium was “world class.” “The new Perth Stadium is a wonderful, refreshing, world-class stadium, and I have no hesitation in recommending that the venue is approved for staging all three formats of international cricket,” he added.

Meanwhile, the WACA Ground which has hosted cricket matches since the early 1890’s will now be turned into a boutique ground with a capacity of 10,000-15,000 by the local board.
