Peter Handscomb, Australian middle-order batsman, has been left bitterly disappointed after he was overlooked from the national sides’ 26-man squad for the limited-overs series against England.

Handscomb last represented Australia during their semi-final defeat to eventual champions England in the 2019 World Cup.

“I still thought I was in the top 20 one-day players given what I had done over the last year and a half. To not be in the 26, that really hurt,” Handscomb told cricket.com.au.

“Going from being in the 15 and then having 11 guys essentially jump me I know they’re different roles and different positions but that hurt a fair bit.” he added.

Peter Handscomb, however, is confident that considering the next 50-over World Cup is in India, and given the relative ease with which he faces spin bowling, he can make a comeback into the ODI set-up.

Hanscomb revealed that he had a ‘really good’ conversation with newly-elected selector and former batsman George Bailey and he is glad that he is at least on their radar.

“I had a really, really good conversation with George. I would like to think with the World Cup in India in 2023 that I am at least on their radar,” said Peter Handscomb.

“I’d consider myself a good player of spin and being able to control those middle overs,” he added.

Peter Handscomb has thus far represented Australia in 22 ODIs, in which he has scored 632 runs at an average of 33.26 with the help of four half-centuries and one hundred. The lone hundred that he has scored in his ODI career also came on low and slow tracks in India during Australia’s 3-2 series win back in 2019.
