Young Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw has put India in all sorts of bother as he skipped the practice session on Thursday because of swelling in his left foot. An unforeseen change of circumstances could see Shubman Gill replace him in the team.

This has increased team India’s worries before the second Test beginning from Saturday. India are currently taking on New Zealand in the two-match Test series. The Men in Blue lost the first game by 10 wickets and their reputation of being the number one Test side in the world is on the stake at the moment.

Prithvi Shaw Could See His Exit In The Second Test

Shaw missed India’s practice session on Thursday due to a swollen foot and the development has put his participation in the Christchurch Test under jeopardy. It has further been learnt that the young opening batsman will undergo blood test as there isn’t enough clarity over the reason for the swelling.

In case Shaw will be unavailable for the game, Shubman Gill can open the innings for India alongside Mayank Agarwal.

However, captain Kohli insisted on Wednesday that Shaw is the first-choice opener as of now for team India. But, his availability is a matter of concern at the moment and things don’t look good for the young destructive opener.

“I don’t think at this stage, we need to sit down and discuss what’s going wrong because I don’t see anything wrong. It’s the execution of things which was not there,” Kohli had said.

“It is just a matter of understanding the pace of the wicket and conditions as soon as possible. Again, when he (Shaw) is in a clear frame of mind, he is very, very destructive. Once he feels that he can do it, I think it will be a different ball game. The mindset can shift very quickly,” he added.
