Prithvi Shaw is Certainly a Very Good Talented Player - Jonty Rhodes

Former South Africa cricketer, Jonty Rhodes feels the 19-year-old, Prithvi Shaw is an outstanding, talented cricketer who has made some imprints in the Indian side so far. Meanwhile, Rhodes applauded the Indian cricket team for giving the opportunities to the young talent.

However, Prithvi Shaw recently made his international debut in Test against the Windies in Rajkot. In that game only, Shaw hit his maiden Test hundred, as he played some fearless cricket. Also, India won the game by an innings and 272 runs.

Moreover, Jonty Rhodes also said people have already started comparing Prithvi Shaw with the legendary,  Sachin Tendulkar. The greatest fielder also said playing alongside Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan would help him improve his game.

“What’s young, I mean he is 19 years old. He is certainly a very good talented player. The most amazing thing about India it that it finds these young guys and because of all the domestic cricket, these guys get the chance to expose themselves. Without putting him under pressure, he has already been compared to Sachin Tendulkar. He is batting with the likes of Virat Kohli, in a team around the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Pujara. They have who churned out runs season after season, year after year. After 2 Test matches, it is difficult to label somebody.” Jonty Rhodes said.

Furthermore, it is difficult to judge a player after playing two Test matches. The whole nation has to wait to see how Prithvi Shaw can perform in the upcoming tour against Australia later this year if he gets picked. However, Rhodes is happy the young talent is getting opportunities to represent India.

“It is great that they have been given opportunities and been able to express themselves. At this stage, he is certainly a young player with a great future, if he can keep level-headed. But he has got a good team around him to do that. When India tour Australia, conditions are more similar to South Africa, so it is more about pace and bounce. So if you’ve got young players who are not scared to play a few shots that are good.” Rhodes added.

Of late, India had won the Asia Cup 2018 and also won the two-match Test series against the Windies. Virat Kohli and Co. will be high on confidence when they land Australia for three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs.

“India will arrive in Australia with confidence in their ability that they can win the Test series. Australia will miss Smith and Warner. The mental aspect of cricket is so important.” Jonty Rhodes concluded.
