Former South Africa cricketer JP Duminy has come out in support of skipper Quinton de Kock. Proteas faced yet another series loss, as they were humiliated in the T20I series by Australia.

Duminy feels de Kock will get the best of out of the struggling Proteas unit. The batting has often looked fragile while bowlers haven’t really executed the plans wisely. However, the ex all-rounder has firm belief in the leadership of De Kock.

“He has a genius brain when it comes to cricket,” Duminy told Sport24 at a JP21 Foundation event. “He sees things that not a lot of us see on a cricket field.

“The important thing for him is to understand how to articulate that and to get the buy-in from other players. When you have this genius mind, sometimes it’s a hit and miss with players because you see things before they happen.

De Kock replaced Faf du Plessis at the helm. Under his leadership, South Africa lost 2-1 to both England and Australia in the shortest format of the game. Furthermore, the hapless show against Australia, where the side got bundled out for 89 and 96 raised a lot of questions.

While many questioned the sacking of Du Plessis ahead of the T20 World Cup, Duminy has pinned his hopes on the new skipper. He feels the style of captaincy will vary from person to person. He also pointed out that the leader of the pack will have to channelize his strength in the right manner.

“That’s going to be the strength of his leadership if he gets players buying into certain strategies and plans. Everybody has their strengths and he will be very different to a Faf, AB and Graeme … it’s about finding your niche and understanding what your strengths are.” he concluded.
