India’s Test off-spinner R Ashwin could be fined by BCCI for wearing a helmet which had a BCCI logo on it. As per the rules, no international or domestic player can sport a BCCI logo on any of the equipment or jersey.

The rule was introduced by BCCI in 2014/15 season, following which the international and India A players started taping their helmets and jerseys. On occasions, few players did forget to cover BCCI’s logo but Ashwin’s case has been highlighted as the game was a televised affair and was the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier list A tournament.

The presence of international stars Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Murali Vijay, Abhimanyu Mithun, Washington Sundar, Vijay Shakar and Karun Nair further added to the star factor as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu locked horns for the coveted trophy.

“The clothing regulations clearly say that you have to tape the BCCI logo if you plan to use the same helmet in domestic matches as the one you wear while playing for India. The match referees, as well as players, have been briefed about the same over the years and if someone is guilty of committing the mistake, he can be fined by the referee,” an official was quoted as saying by IANS.

Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu stunned the fans by sending Ashwin at number 3 after they lost the wicket of Murali Vijay in the first over.

The Manish Pandey-led got their hands on the trophy for the fourth time, having won the tournament in 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2017/18.
