In an interesting turn of events, South African spearhead, Kagiso Rabada’s two-match ban imposed by ICC Match Referee Jeff Crowe, was lifted by Chris Broad.
Rabada decided to protest against the decision and after a long discussion, Chris Broad uplifted the ban on the speedster. Further, Rabada accumulates only one demerit point with only 25% fine.
This decision came as music to the years for the Proteans as he is now available for the Cape Town and Jo’Burg Test matches. Rabada wrecked havoc within the Australian dressing room with his devastating spells during the PE and Durban test.
South Africa’s head coach Ottis Gibson came in support of his premier fast bowler and mentioned that even after the six-hour long hearing, all he wanted to do was practice.
“He’s a strong character. He came after six hours (in the appeal hearing) yesterday and all he wanted to do was practice. Him being available lifts everybody, he is the best bowler in the world,” commented Ottis Gibson according Reuters UK.
Rabada- not a bad kid: Gibson
“The number one bowler in the world is allowed to play cricket is exciting for everybody concerned. We are very happy he is allowed to play, we all believe it is the right decision at the end of the day,” added the West Indian.
The former English coach went on to state that 22-year old Rabada has been briefed on his responsibilities and the essence he holds to the South African team.
“We have made him aware of responsibilities for the team, he is a very important player. He has been made very aware of his on-field celebrations,” Gibson stated.
Further, Gibson backed Rabada by citing out that he is not ‘bad kid’ but gets carried away in the heat of the moment. Gibson concluded by assuring that KG won’t repeat these errors the next time.
“He’s not a bad kid, he is a bit over-exuberant at times. But there was not aggressive intent there apart from celebrating a wicket. He’s a smart kid and I am sure he has learnt his lesson. I don’t expect he will make the same mistake,” ended Ottis Gibson.
