Ajinkya Rahane, the India Test vice-captain, was the top buy in the Mumbai T20 league auction.

Mumbai North snared him for the price of Rs 7 Lakh.

Along with him, India A player Suryakumar Yadav also topped the list and was sold to Mumbai North-East for the same amount.

Both the players were already on the list of icon players announced earlier.

Rohit Sharma, team India’s limited-overs vice-captain, was sold for an amount of Rs 6 Lakh to Mumbai North-West.

Him going at such an amount was a surprise, as he is the captain of Indian cricket team for the Nidahas Trophy.

He is not available to play until March 16, if India does not qualify for the final. If India plays the finale as well – which will be played on March 18 – then he will not return to the country before March 19.

In short, he is not available to play in the tournament, but the franchise still bought him.

Both Rahane and Suryakumar are available to play in the tournament, as they are neither part of India squad neither Irani Cup.

The other icon players to go at the high prices were Shreyas Iyer (Rs 5 Lakh), Siddhesh Lad (Rs 4 Lakh) and Abhishek Nayar (Rs 4 Lakh).

Iyer will play for Mumbai North-Central while the other two players will play for Mumbai South-Central and Mumbai South, respectively. All the three players are available to play the full tournament.

Iyer was a part of the T20I side last year, but the comeback of Suresh Raina meant that he got dropped from the T20I team.

Iqbal Abdulla and Bhavin Thakkar, who are serving their cooling off period to be eligible to play for Mumbai, were sold at Rs 3.40 Lakh and Rs 1.50 Lakh, respectively.

The inaugural edition of T20 tournament will be played from March 11 to 21. All the matches will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of the league, who inaugurated the tournament a few days back.
