Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Sanju Samson Shows Bravery, Bats With Fractured Finger Against Gujarat

Kerala’s flamboyant batsman Sanju Samson was the cynosure of all eyes when he batted with a fractured finger. Samson had to retire hurt in the ongoing quarterfinal clash against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19. The right-hander made 17 runs in the first innings in which Kerala posted a scored of 185 runs. Samson had to retire hurt after he was hit on his finger.
Subsequently, Samson showed great bravery when he came out to bat in the second innings at the number 11 position. However, Samson could not trouble the scorers as he had issues while holding the bat. Axar Patel was able to plumb the stylish right-hander in front of the wickets.
Meanwhile, Gujarat needs another 149 runs to book their semifinal place and have six wickets in hand. It has been a low scoring match as both teams have failed to reach the 200-run mark.
Gujarat scored 162 runs in the first innings after Parthiv Patel won the toss and decided to bat first. The skipper Parthiv Patel was the top scorer with 43 runs in the first innings. Sandeep Warrier was the pick of the Kerala bowlers as he scalped four wickets whereas Basil Thampi and MD Nideesh took three wickets each.
However, Kerala could only take a 23 runs lead as they were bundled out for 185 in the first essay. In fact, Basil Thampi scored a quickfire 37 runs.
Subsequently, Kerala scored 171 runs in the second dig to give a target of 195 runs to the visitors. However, Gujarat has thus far lost four quick wickets after scoring 49 runs on the board.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson is a consistent performer in the IPL. However, he will need to come up with better domestic performances to grab his chances. He hasn’t been able to do justice with his talent thus far. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has grabbed his chance and it is going to be difficult for Samson to get his place in the side.
