The participation of Umesh Yadav in the Ranji Trophy game for Vidarbha against Karnataka is still under the clouds, as he is yet to get a green signal from the Indian team management, a report in TOI suggests. He has already been released to play the game, but his participation will only get decided on the eve of the game,

“He is not injured but there are some small niggles which have been bothering him for the last few months. However, the team management doesn’t want to take risks ahead of the important South Africa tour and that’s why he was sent to NCA to recuperate. He will be perfectly fine before the South Africa tour,” a source told TOI.

Umesh, along with KL Rahul, went to National Cricket Academy (NCA) right after the conclusion of the Delhi Test despite being available for Ranji Trophy quarterfinal. Both of them are carrying small issues, and team management are not keen to risk any player before the team travels to South Africa for the Test series.

Hence, these two were not allowed to play the quarterfinal, but as reported earlier, they were released to play the semifinal contest due to lack of match practice, as these two played their last competitive game last month. In fact, KL Rahul has been released from the India T20I squad to play in Ranji Trophy. Still, it is not clear whether he will play Ranji or T20I series.

Vidarbha team management will keep its keen eye on the decision of the Indian team management, as the addition of Umesh in the lineup will be a big boost for the team against a strong Karnataka batting lineup.

Already, Vidarbha is going as underdogs in this game, and if Umesh misses out, it will further weaken their chances.

The semifinals of the Rani Trophy will be played from December 17 to 21. In the first semi, Delhi will face Bengal at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune. In the second semifinal, Vidarbha will be up against a strong Karnataka side at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, led by R Vinay Kumar.
