Former India opener, Gautam Gambhir attained a God-like status after a fan did the unexpected by breaching the security during a live match in the Ranji Trophy 2018 match and touched his feet. The ongoing tie against Andhra is the last game of his cricketing career.

Meanwhile, Gambhir has provided Delhi with a good start in reply to Andhra’s 390 runs in the first innings. Ricky Bhui smashed 187 runs, well-provided by the middle-order to help Andhra post a massive total. The lower-order also chipped in with significant contribution to take the first innings total close to 400. Fast bowler Subodh Bhati was the star for the Delhi as he bagged five wickets with Vikas Mishra returning with two.

Gautam Gambhir, the third highest run-getter among Indian Test openers, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday (December 4). Gambhir’s last international appearance came in November 2016 when he featured in the first Test against England in Rajkot.

The southpaw was crucial to India World Cup-winning campaign in 2007 and 2011. The unsung hero played two match-winning knocks in the finals to hand over the trophy to India.

Gambhir, however, has a quality fan following and there were high chances of his fans attending his last game. A fan initially jumped over the fences at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, ran down to the middle and touched his feet.

However, these scenes are not unusual in Indian cricket. We have seen fans touching Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag’s feet in the past, not to forget MS Dhoni as well. Later on, the police got hold of him and they beat him up with a rod.
