England star Jos Buttler has lavished praise on Kuldeep Yadav after the left-arm spinner’s demolition job in the first T20I.

The chinaman spinner completely exposed England’s frailties against spin as he tore through their middle-order. The spinner picked a career-best five for 24 before KL Rahul’s blistering unbeaten 101 from 54 balls took India to a thumping eight-wicket win.

Asked to bat first, England were comfortably placed at 95 for one in the 12th over before Kuldeep began his demolition job.. In his second over, he ended Hales’ (eight off 18) painful stay at the crease. But it was Kuldeep’s following over that really did the damage.

Eoin Morgan (7) holed out to the first ball. One ball later,  Jonny Bairstow (0) and Joe Root (0) were both wholly deceived, as they played forward and were stumped. Kuldeep went on to complete his maiden five-wicket haul by taking the huge wicket of Buttler.

David Willey then played a fine cameo of 29* off 15 to help England go past 150. In the end, they had 159 runs to defend.  In reply, India rode on KL Rahul’s unbeaten ton to chase down the total with 10 balls to spare.

With the series on the line, England batsmen will have to find a way to counter the huge threat possessed by Kuldeep. And ahead of the do-or-die clash, Buttler said his teammates to learn from their mistakes quickly.

“It’s very rare and he’s a very good bowler,” Buttler said of Kuldeep. “It’s now down to the guys to gain an understanding. You see it a lot in international cricket that guys burst onto the scene and then people get a handle on them.

“It’s getting used to the angle [because] wrist-spin is usually right-arm. He’s a good bowler and as we have seen, wrist spinners have been a big weapon in T20. We know we are a lot better than we showed during that little phase of the game. We just didn’t manage to capitalize on the start,” he added.
