Recently, the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced that Rashid Khan has been appointed the captain of Afghanistan cricket team in all three formats. Former skipper Asghar Afghan will be his deputy. Rashid Khan will succeed Gulbadin Naib, who had led Afghanistan in their World Cup 2019 campaign. Now, they announced squad for the tour to Bangladesh.

Along with Mohammad Shahzad, who is serving a suspension, middle-order batsman Nasir Jamal, left-arm spinner Sharafuddin Ashraf, paceman Wafadar Momand, and left-arm Wrist Spinner Waqar Salamkheil have been excluded in the squad.

Shapoor Zadran is back:

The squad of 15 includes veterans Mohammad Nabi and Asghar Afghan, the captain in Afghanistan’s first two Test matches, with other experienced players like Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi. The others include left-arm wrist-spinner Zahir Khan, medium-pacer Ahmad Shirzad and two players who have never represented the nation — openers Ibrahim Zadran and legspinner Qais Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Shapoor Zadran has made it to the Test team while Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been left out. Ikram Ali Khil has replaced Shahzad in the whites and Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been picked to do the job behind the stumps in the T20Is.

The selectors have picked some format specialists as well who are not the part of both the squads. Only Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Asghar Afghan are the part of both Test and T20I squads.

Announcing the squad, chief selector Andy Moles said: “We have selected a 17-member squad for the T20I matches. It was done as per the advice of the captain as we have two important tournaments. T20I Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup 2020 ahead of us. We will seek to prepare good sides for these tournaments. And also, those players who perform well will be considered for selection.”

The one-off Test will be played from September 5 to 9. Meanwhile, the tri-series is scheduled to get underway on September 13 and go on until September 24.  The Test squad will leave to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for a training camp before travelling to Bangladesh on August 30.
