Under Virat Kohli, India triumphed in Tests in Australia; winning the Border-Gavaskar trophy (2-1) for the first time in Down Under. Though the cricketing world couldn’t stop congratulating India, head coach Ravi Shastri seemed to have gone over the board. Shastri said finding success in Australia is bigger than the 83′ World Cup, which came under the captaincy of legendary Kapil Dev. He said,

“I will tell you how satisfying it is for me. World Cup 1983, World Championship of Cricket 1985 – this is as big, or even bigger, because it is in the truest (Test) format of the game. It’s Test cricket, which is meant to be the toughest,”

Meanwhile, not only the fans got surprised to hear such a remark, but they also trolled Ravi.

‘Gaffer’ reveals the real reason behind that comment

Cricbuzz interviewed team India’s head coach, and the gaffer stood by his comments. Explaining what made him say so, Ravi Shastri said because Test cricket remains to be the purest form of cricket, a win against Australia in Australia always has to top the chart.

Ravi further said he was there in the dressing room during 83′, 85.’ But this time, it was special to be part of the backroom staff which dominated the Oz at their home.

“In 1983, I was in the dressing room. In 1985, I was in the dressing room. In 2018-19, I was in the dressing room. Why do I rate this? Because Test cricket is the purest form and we came to Australia as heavyweight champions of Test cricket, home and away.”

The head coach added India didn’t enter the contest as absolute favourites, but neither were they the underdogs. He pressed on the fact that India came down as the number one Test team in the world. Also, he is glad; the Indian team played like the number one side in the world as well.

“We were not favourites – no team can come to Australia as favourites because Australia will chew them out. But we were not underdogs to come and surprise them either. We came as number one Test side, and we played as the number one Test side, and we won,” Shastri said.

India, under Kohli-Shastri, has found success!

Under the guidance of Ravi Shastri and the captaincy of Virat Kohli, team India had found immense success. Though they lost Tests in South Africa (1-2) and England (1-4); the India National Cricket Team won the ODIs in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
