The head coach of the Indian team, Ravi Shastri once again backed MS Dhoni saying that will go down as one of the greatest ODI players the world has ever seen. While Dhoni has received criticism for his dip in form, coach Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli has always backed his abilities. Further, he added that Dhoni’s experience is an asset to any team.

A pool of former cricketers slammed Dhoni during New Zealand T20I series for not scoring runs quickly. However, Dhoni answered his critics with the bat in the next few bilateral series. Most recently, vintage Dhoni was on offer during the 2nd T20I against South Africa. Dhoni paired with Manish Pandey to rescue India following a rare failure from the middle-order.

Further, his wicket-keeping skills and presence of mind take him o another level. Recently, chief selector MSK Prasad admitted that no youngsters had put his stand up in that aspect of the game.

Shastri lauds Dhoni:

While talking to India Today, Shastri talked highly of Dhoni, especially the immense experience he brings.

And like I said, there is no substitute for experience. That cannot be bought or sold in the market. He’ll (Dhoni) go down as one of the greatest one-day players the world has ever seen. And when you have that kind of experience, the level of fitness and what he’s maintained,” Shastri said.

Further, Shastri also backed Dhoni’s finishing skills stating that only are better than him in the business.

When it comes to finishing a game or batting in the final overs, there have been very few better than him in the history of the game. When you have that cushion of someone like him coming at No. 5, 6 or even 7 it makes a big big difference,” Shastri concluded.
