Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin has responded to England pacer James Anderson’s shameful act with his picture in the wake of the Mankad controversy. Ashwin received quite a lot of flak after Mankading Rajasthan Royals’ England star Jos Buttler. Rajasthan Royals were cruising along at 108 for 1 in their chase of 185 a before the incident took place in the 13th over.

On the penultimate delivery of the over, Ravichandran Ashwin stopped at the bowling crease, paused as Buttler left the crease, before turning to take the bails off. He immediately appealed for a run-out and eventually got the decision in his favour.

The dismissal completely changed the course of the game. Royals’ chase fell apart soon as they suffered an inexplicable batting collapse. Before departing, Buttler had slammed 69 off 43 balls with the help of 10 fours and two sixes. He had also added 78 runs with Ajinkya Rahane for the first wicket.

The Royals went on to finish the game on 170 for 9 despite being 108 for 1 and then 148 for 2 at one stage.

The incident had divided the cricketing world into two halves as many felt that Ashwin was right while many said that the act was against the spirit of the game. While Mankading is not against the rules, it is widely considered to be against the spirit of the game. Unsurprisingly, Ashwin had received criticism all around.

However, James Anderson had perhaps crossed the limit as he expressed his displeasure in a shameful manner. England’s highest Test wicket-taker of all time had shockingly shredded Ashwin’s picture.

Ashwin has now finally reacted to the incident. The India star, while saying that he has absolutely ‘no regrets’ over the Mankad, stated that he would not be surprised if Anderson does the same in near future.

“Today Jimmy Anderson might feel that whatever I did was wrong. Maybe, tomorrow he might end up doing (Mankading) it. Who knows, it is all a question of perception of right and wrong. I don’t think in this case it is necessary because it is in the law and I did,” Ravichandran Ashwin told India Today.

The senior India off-spinner is clear that what he did was within the rules of the games.

“Everybody who know me, it is very clear (to them) that I don’t do anything that is illegal. Even my team has stood behind me since then. A lot many players have come to me and said whatever I did was absolutely right,” Ashwin said.
