The Kings XI Punjab side are at the third spot in the IPL points table. One of the most balanced sides in this edition of the T20 league, the Ravichandran Ashwin-led unit have won six out of their ten matches.
We have seen some inspiring leadership from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s skipper Kane Williamson and the veteran leader of the Chennai Super Kings MS Dhoni. Ashwin too, has made steady contributions and played his cards well. A smart cricketer with a sharp brain, the Punjab skipper has made certain changes that have come off very well.
Gavaskar lauds Ashwin’s decision-making
Legendary former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praises on Ashwin. The all-rounder has been bowling a lot of leggies in order to add more options to his armory. “He has shown why he is such a tremendous cricketer and now given the responsibility, a fine leader too. He has always been a player who applies a lot of thought to his cricket and one not afraid to ask questions in order to get better. The latter quality could well have come in the way of getting the vice-captaincy of the national team but it’s this very quality that sees him get better with every game. Which player would try bowling leg-spin and do it so well despite the wrist position being totally opposite of his regular off-spinners.” Gavaskar wrote on his column for Times Of India.
Tonight’s game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians will play a vital role in deciding the fate of the two sides. Gavaskar said it is going to be an evenly matches contest. “Mumbai do well when Rohit gets runs for them, he leads assertively and confidently. They have come back well and if they can put it across to Kolkata who also has a fine skip” Gavaskar wrote.
