Indian National Cricket Team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the leading players of India’s victory over Australia in the first Test at Adelaide. Unfortunately, India played their last Test without their premium spinner in the team. Meanwhile, former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, has expressed his concern over the 31-year-old’s fitness issues and also said that it is not good if the player keeps getting injured so often.

Ganguly’s concerned about Ravichandran Ashwin

Indian pacer Umesh Yadav replaced Ashwin in the second Test at Perth. Ravindra Jadeja was included in the third Test, but Ganguly feels that Ashwin is handy for the left-handers. The 46-year-old believes that Ashwin needs to be careful with his fitness and cannot afford too many injuries during an important away series.

“Ravichandran Ashwin is worrying me now. He can’t be the premier spinner and get injured so many times on big tours: England, South Africa, and now Australia. The team needs him against left-handers, but it looks like he will be sitting out now. He is not doing his reputation any good,” Sourav Ganguly wrote in his column for The Times of India (TOI).

Moreover, Virat Kohli’s men lost the last game by 146 runs, and the series was tied at 1-1. The former Indian skipper believes that the series is still open to all possibilities. He is confident that India is capable of winning the Melbourne Test and also have the chance to win the series.

“The series is still wide open. I have said before that India can win it and I believe the same now. The start will be crucial; Australia’s best chance is to leave grass on the surface. The toss will be critical, too, as both the teams don’t chase very well,” Ganguly added.

India is currently playing their third Test against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). However, after winning the toss, Kohli had decided to bat first and finished the day on a high. They finished the day at 215 for two with Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara at the crease.
