Ravindra Jadeja Becomes Fastest Left-Arm Bowler To Take 150 Test Wickets, Second Fastest Indian

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja has become the second fastest Indian to reach 150 Test wickets behind his spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin after he dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva on the third day of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Saturday (August 5).

Jadeja reached the 150-wicket mark in his 32nd Test while Ashwin had achieved the feat in only 29 Tests. The duo are followed by former spin greats Erapalli Prasanna and Anil Kumble both of whom had taken their 150th Test wicket in 34 Tests while discarded off-spinner Harbhajan Singh reached the milestone in 35 Tests.

The Saurashtra star, who was the Man of the Series in the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year, also became the fastest left-arm bowler to claim 150 Test wickets. The record was previously held by former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson who had taken his 150th wicket in his 34th Test. The second and third positions were also occupied by Australians, Bill Johnston and Alan Davidson, who reached the landmark in 35 and 37 Tests respectively.

Meanwhile, riding on Kusal Mendis‘ century and Dimuth Karunaratne‘s unbeaten 92 Sri Lanka finished the day on 209 for 2 after being asked to follow on. In reply to India’s mammoth first innings total of 622, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 183 in the first innings.
