Riding on the fine all-round shows in Test cricket, Ravindra Jadeja, on Tuesday (August 8), became the top ranked Test all-rounder in the latest ICC rankings, surpassing Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan. He was already the number one Test bowler in the world and added yet another feather to his cap by becoming the number one all-rounder for the first time in his career. The 28-year old achieved the feat after starring for India in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo. He scored an half-century in addition to picking up 7 wickets as India thrashed the hosts by an innings and 53 runs to seal the series.

He scored an unbeaten 70 to propel the visitors to 622 for nine and then picked up a couple of wickets in the first innings. He made even a bigger impact in the second in the second innings, picking up five wickets including the wickets of skipper Dinesh Chandimal, Centurion Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews to fire India to the series-clinching win. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

His performances in the 2016-17 home season was equally impressive.  He was India’s second highest wicket-taker, taking a staggering 71 wickets in 13 Tests and played an integral role in India’s dominant show at home. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 556 runs.

The Saurashtra star has now credited his two captains, MS Dhoni, under whom he made his Test debut, current captain Virat Kohli, his family and fans for helping him to become the best all-rounder of the world.
