Ravindra Jadeja Registers The Highest Score By An Indian At No.7 In T20Is; Breaks MS Dhoni’s 8-Year Old Record

Ravindra Jadeja is in terrific batting form since the IPL. He carried it into the ODI series against Australia and continued his rich vein of run in the first T20I on Friday in Canberra. En route to his match-winning knock of 44* from 23 balls, Jadeja achieved a milestone.

The left-hander now has the highest score by an Indian in T20 internationals. He surpasses MS Dhoni, his Chennai Super Kings skipper’s record. Dhoni made 38 off 18 against England in 2012 batting at number 7.

The 31-year-old has grown leaps and bounds as a batsman in the last couple of years. Since 2019, he averages 42 in ODIs, and 58 in Tests. In the IPL, the left-hander had an average of 46 and batted with a strike rate of 171.

In the third ODI as well, Jadeja played a perfect second fiddle to Hardik Pandya with a knock of 66 runs off 50 balls. He treaded carefully against the spinners and then launched an attack on the pacers in the last 5 overs. Later, Jadeja also took an important wicket of a set Aaron Finch as Australia fell 13 runs short of India’s total.

During the first T20I, Ravindra Jadeja was struck on the helmet by a Mitchell Starc bouncer. However, he did not receive any medical attention. India brought in Yuzvendra Chahal as his substitute. Chahal picked 3 wickets which derailed the Australian innings, and was named the Man of the Match.

Before getting hit by the bouncer, Jadeja was seen struggling with his hamstring during his inning. And when  Chahal came in as a concussion substitute for Jadeja, Justin Langer, head coach of the Australian team was videoed having a heated discussion with the match referee, David Boon.

On the back of Jadeja’s heroics with the bat, and a disciplined bowling performance, India staged a brilliant comeback to win the first ODI. The action moves back to the SCG for the next two T20Is before the Test series takes attention.
