Rivaba Jadeja, wife of India cricket star Ravindra Jadeja, has taken a huge step towards making a career in politics. In October last year, Rivaba had hinted about her political aspirations by joining pro-Rajput group Karni Sena as the President of Women’s wing in Gujarat. However, even after joining Karni Sena, she had said that betterment of the women is her top priority as she played down her chances of joining the politics.

“My first goal would be to empower women to the level that they can fend for themselves, take care of themselves and defend themselves when men are not around and fight off any threats from perverted minds. This is my prime goal as I have personally been through such an experience,” she had said.

Rivaba had said she was unsure of joining politics, stating:

“I can’t say anything with certainty at this stage. I would like to make contribution in the capacity for which my community has selected me. You may call this a beginning. I have lots of good plans for our community and our country in coming days. Presently, my focus is social service.”

And almost four months after joining Karni Sena, Rivaba has now joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She joined the political party on Sunday in Jamnagar. Rivaba was welcomed to the party fold by Gujarat Agriculture Minister R C Faldu and Jamnagar MP Poonam Maadam.

“She is a known face in Jamnagar and Gujarat. Her entry gives the BJP one more recognisable face, and it will help the party in the Lok Sabha elections,” Hasmukh Hindocha, president of Jamnagar city unit of the BJP, said.

Jadeja, on the other hand, is busy impressing the selectors ahead of the much-anticipated World Cup. The allrounder is finally getting some chances in ODIs and he is trying his best to leave his mark in order to impress the selectors for a ticket to England.

Jadeja recently played in the first ODI against Australia where he bowled his full quota of ten overs but did not get a chance to bat. He had also failed to get any wicket but was very economical with the ball, conceding just 33 runs from ten overs.
