With MS Dhoni in the twilight of his career, Rishabh Pant is pipped as India’s first-choice wicket-keeper across the format. The young cricketer was chosen as the sole wicket-keeper batsman in the absence of Ms Dhoni for the series against West Indies. Pant will have big shoes to fill in the coming days, but he is focusing on his process and improve every day.

The upcoming series against West Indies will mark Rishabh Pant’s first outing as the first-choice wicket-keeper in the ODIs. He will have big shoes to fill that of MS Dhoni, but Pant is not thinking about those things as it will create unnecessary pressure on him. Instead, the Delhi cricketer is focusing on what he needs to do and how to improve his game with each passing day.

I know those are big shoes to fill, but if I start thinking about it there will be a problem,” Pant said to Hindustan Times. “Right now, I am not thinking about what people say. I am just focusing on what I have to do. I just want to do well for my country. That’s the only thing I am focusing on. I take the challenge positively. Now I have to see what I can learn, and what I can do to improve,” he added.

Furthermore, Rishabh Pant revealed MS Dhoni has inspired him on many fronts, and he wishes to add all those aspects to his game. Dhoni has been an inspirational figure for the young cricketers as he has time and again guided them with his brilliance and help them improve.

The way he reads the game, that is the first thing. Then, he is always very calm in pressure situations. There are many things to learn from him. And off the field, he is always very helpful too. I look to always keep learning from the seniors,” he concluded.
