The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to host a quadrangular tournament – to maintain the continuity when it comes to the exposure of India’s fringe players namely India A and India B.

Meanwhile, the tournament will also feature Australia A and South Africa A and that will take place in July.

However, the visitors will take on India A and India B, which will be the fourth team comprising additional reserve players.

South Africa A team will be playing two four-day games at Bangalore followed by quadrangular featuring Australia A at Vijayawada. The Australia A team will be playing two four-day games against India A at Vizag.

Furthermore, the BCCI also has similar plans for Under-19 teams in September.

The apex body has invited Afghanistan U19  and Nepal U19 team respectively – to play quadrangular series as a preparation for U19 Asia Cup. Kolkata is likely to host all the matches.

Moreover, the India colts will tour Sri Lanka next month for two four-day games followed by one-day series.

Reportedly, the idea to have more games for U19 and India A has come from veteran Rahul Dravid.

Dravid is currently in England with India A side playing a tri-series pitting England Lions and Windies A. They will also play a four-day game with the hosts.

There is no tournament for India A once the England tour is over. So Dravid had requested us to have more series for them in order for there to be a continuity. The reason we are having two teams, India A and B, is so that more fringe players get an opportunity against decent teams. Similar is the case with under 19,” a source said to Indian Express.

“The board was keen to give more practice games before the core group for India under 19, World Cup can be formalised. The BCCI will have more kind of series in coming years,” source stated.
