Former Windies cricketer Ricardo Powell reckons Windies cricket is currently lacking behind due to their inconsistency after a series defeat to India. Meanwhile, Powell is currently doing radio commentary. He was disappointed with the performance of the Windies batsmen against India in the final match ODI series. The visitors were bundled out for a paltry score of 104 runs.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old Ricardo Powell made his ODI debut in 1999. He made his first international century in that year against India in the final of the Singapore Challenge cricket tournament. Powell slammed 124 runs from 137 deliveries with the help of nine sixes.

The Windies punched above their weight in the second and third ODI.

“The pitch had its flaws but you cannot give any excuse for bad batting. It was lack of application from the batsmen on a tricky surface which led to the collapse. You need the patience to score runs on such wickets and none was willing to do it here,’’ Ricardo Powell said in the radio commentary.

Windies only managed to score 104 runs in the fifth match against India. Meanwhile, Powell appreciated the young players who played well and have retained their position in the team. He also added though the team lacked consistency, the future looked bright with some exciting talent around.

“Playing against India in India is tough. They are the world’s best side. You have to be good in all departments to stretch them. We probably lacked consistency. We played well in the first three one-day matches but batted and bowled poorly in Mumbai. The trend has continued here in the fifth one-day as well,” Powell added.

Moreover, Ricardo Powell is impressed with Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer. Hope slammed a century in the second ODI and also scored 95 runs in the third ODI. Meanwhile, Hetmyer also scored a century in the first ODI and amassed 94 runs in the second game.

“At the highest level, it is all about consistency. Having said that I am impressed with the way [Shai] Hope and [Shimron] Hetmeyer have shaped up on this tour. They are the future of West Indies cricket,’’ Ricardo Powell concluded.

India will play three T20Is against Windies commencing from November 4.
